Unsere erste Säge mit einem nicht gedrechselten Griff seit Juni 2012. Als Klaus die Allergie einfing, war unsere erste Reaktion abzuwarten. Vielleicht verschwindet das ja so schnell, wie es kam. Tat es nicht. Also änderten wir unsere Stratgie und Pedder fing an, Aufgaben des Griffmachens zu übernehmen. Dies ist nun der erste Griff, den wir uns trauen zu zeigen.

Es ist eine extra große Zinkensäge oder eine Schultersäge mit einem Zinkensägengriff.Das Holz ist Makore, der letzte Griff, den wir aus diesem Holz gemacht haben. Künftig beschränken wir uns auf absolut unverdächtige Hölzer.
Den Sägestaub hätte ich wegwischen sollen...

Löschenthanks for the kudos. Cocobolo and all dalbergia are supposed to be dangerous. The german local woods are not except yew.

AntwortenLöschendas ist natürlich schön zu sehen, dass ihr wieder im Geschäft seid. Und der Griff kann sich wirklich sehen lassen. Müssen es denn unbedingt exotische Hölzer sein? Obsthölzer sind doch auch toll, selbst Buche etc. wären nicht schlecht. Was werdet ihr in Zukunft nehmen?

LöschenDanke auch für Dein Lob! Nein, müssen es nicht. Maserbirke ist kaum zu überbieten und völlig ungefährlich. Ich mag auch Exoten, aber ich werde mir die Bearbeitung sparen. Das schlimme an der Allergie ist ja, dass es nicht nur das eine auslösende Holz betrifft (zB Cocobolo) sondern sich auf andere Holzarten ausdehnt.

LöschenIncidentally, the Makore looks very nice. I was gifted enough for a desk I plan to build. I have heard stories of how abrasive it is, that is, it dulls tool edges rapidly. What was it like to work with?

LöschenThe Makore is not that hard to work with. Comparable to Mahogany as I think. Maybe it dulls tool edges a bit quicker than other woods, but I didn't experience that.
What I experienced in a hard way is the allergic reactions this wood causes! To me even worse than Cocobolo. One plane stroke and the sneezing starts. A few more and I get an asthma attack. So I wholeheartedly recommend to work this wood fully protected. Breath protection and skin protection are very necessary. Pleas don't do it my way to ignore the first allergic reactions. You will pay highly then because the reactions grow that quick, you hardly can imagine.

AntwortenLöschenThe work of handlemaking ist mostly sawing, rasping, filing and sanding. So I can't say much about the abrasiveness of the wood. Otherwise it was nice to work. But because it is one of the supossed to be dangerouse woods, we will not work another time with it.
Sure there are more abrasive woods in you backyard. :o)
